Some individuals discover that their passion for education extends beyond the traditional classroom setting. If you’re interested in an education-related career that takes a slightly different path, our Early Childhood (EC) Professional Program may be the perfect fit for you. This flexible program is designed to meet students where they are, whether you’re beginning your educational journey, seeking to advance in your current role, or exploring new opportunities in the field.

The EC Professional Program is tailored to your individual goals and offers both face-to-face and online course options, making it possible to balance your education with work, family, and personal responsibilities. Regardless of the format you choose, you’ll benefit from high-quality instruction, personalized advising, and coursework grounded in child development, learning theory, and effective educational practice.

Students in the EC Professional Program gain the knowledge and experience to pursue a wide range of meaningful careers in both formal and informal educational settings. Many graduates find rewarding positions as paraprofessionals, working alongside certified teachers to support children’s learning and development. Others pursue roles in community-based and informal education, such as positions at environmental centers, children’s museums, historic sites, libraries, recreation programs, and science museums, places where education happens through exploration, creativity, and interaction.

In addition, graduates often apply their skills in related educational fields, including educational publishing, curriculum development, tutoring and academic enrichment programs, early childhood advocacy organizations, social service agencies, family resource centers, community outreach programs, educational technology companies, corporate training, human services, and faith-based ministries. These diverse pathways allow students to make a positive impact on learners of all ages and in a variety of contexts, without requiring a traditional teaching certificate.

A distinctive feature of the EC Professional Program is the opportunity to participate in internships and field-based experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world application. These experiences enable students to work directly with professionals in their chosen areas of interest, gain valuable hands-on experience, and develop the skills, confidence, and professional networks that lead to career success.

Through individualized advising, flexible learning options, and meaningful fieldwork, the EC Professional Program empowers students to design a career path that reflects their personal interests, strengths, and goals all while contributing to the broader field of education.
