The Medical Technology (B.S.) program, also known as Clinical Laboratory Science, prepares students in fundamental and clinical laboratory sciences for careers in diagnostic laboratories.
The Medical Technologist uses state-of-the-art technology to perform analysis of patient samples (blood and other materials) that are useful in detecting and/or treating diseases.
Graduates of this program have a firm foundation enabling them to pursue graduate study for many advanced or alternative career paths.

- The Medical Technology program provides students with hands-on, personalized instruction with small class sizes, qualified and experienced faculty, state-of-the art laboratory equipment, opportunities for gaining practical lab experience, and opportunities for internships and undergraduate research.
- The curriculum includes 98 credit hours (three academic years) at ESU followed by a calendar year internship in a hospital clinical program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
- Graduates of this program also have a firm foundation in lab sciences that prepares them for graduate school and alternative career paths.
What You'll Learn
ESU's Medical Technology students will learn to use state-of-the-art technology and laboratory procedures to analyze patient blood samples and other tissues to detect and treat cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions.

Our Medical Technology graduates have excellent job placement opportunities, and they work in physician offices, clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers.

Emily completed 3 years of coursework at ESU and then a year-long externship in Penn State’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Laboratory Science program. Emily now works as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Microbiology Lab at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
