East Stroudsburg University’s location is perfect for studying park management with abundant parks and recreation destinations such as the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area the Pocono Environmental Education Center, the Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, Promised Land State Park, and Hickory Run State Park that allow them to observe unique geographical features of the Pocono Mountains such as the Appalachian Trail, the Brodhead Creek, the Boulder Fields, and other unique ecological features of this area.

The Park Management minor emphasizes planning and designing of recreation facilities, examines current sustainable practices, investigates trends in environmental education, and analyzes the ecological diversity of the National Park services and agencies. The minor helps prepare students who are seeking a career in outdoor recreation and park management.

Students learn about future trends in outdoor education and environmental education movements, recreation, and natural resources management, and explore current issues faced by federal, state, and local government park agencies; understand recreation and park management practices pertaining to administration, park resources, and visitor use and protection; and discuss the current issues being faced by outdoor recreation and natural resource management agencies. Degree coursework helps prepare students for a career that encourages healthy lifestyles and enjoyment of the outdoors.

Career Opportunities

The park management minor provides supervisory and managerial careers in public and private sector parks and recreation and environmental conservation agencies. Graduates find jobs with municipal parks and recreation departments, federal land-management agencies, nonprofit organizations, and a variety of other outlets in the recreation services industry.
