We look forward to providing assistance to your students to help them achieve success in your courses!

The University-wide Tutorial Program offers a variety of different tutoring formats to provide academic support for your students. Faculty recommendations are the primary source of tutors in the University-wide Tutorial Program.

Recommend a Tutor

If you’ve had a student in your course and you think they would make a great tutor, let us know! The minimum qualifications for all UWTP positions are:

  • Sophomore status, or above (Graduate Students are eligible too!)
  • 3.0 overall GPA
  • Achieved A or B in the course
  • A recommendation from you

If you would like us to recruit this student to tutor specifically for your course, but do not have a student in mind, please email msimmons@esu.edu.

Peer Tutors are for courses that have under 60 students enrolled and for 100-200 level general education courses. Peer Tutors offer weekly walk-in tutoring hours and individualized tutoring, as needed.

LCTs are for courses that have over 60 students enrolled and for 100-200 level general education courses. LCTs offer weekly walk-in tutoring hours and individualized tutoring, as needed.

LCTs assist during class by taking attendance, distributing and collecting materials, and assisting with other in-class tasks deemed necessary. LCTs can also work for up to three hours outside of the class to assist in arranging for technology services; scanning, copying, and collating materials; updating bulletin boards; and other out-of-class tasks deemed necessary. LCTs may not perform any functions required of the instructor of record, e.g., they are not to grade any course assignments.

The Large Classroom Tutors are hired and trained by the UWTP.

LAs are for courses that have over 60 students enrolled and identified as a historically high failure rate course. LAs offer two weekly one-hour interactive review and discussion sessions (based on the Supplemental Instruction Model) and two one-hour open discussion hours.

LAs assist during class by taking attendance, distributing and collecting materials, and assisting with other in-class tasks deemed necessary. LAs can also work for up to three hours outside of the class to assist in arranging for technology services; scanning, copying, and collating materials; updating bulletin boards; and other out-of-class tasks deemed necessary. LAs may not perform any functions required of the instructor of record, e.g., they are not to grade any course assignments.

The Learning Assistants are hired and trained by the UWTP.

Faculty Assistants are for courses that have over 60 students enrolled but do not require academic support. FAs are available to assist with taking attendance, distributing and collecting materials, and other tasks deemed necessary. They are also available for up to three hours outside of the class to assist with arranging for technology services, scanning, copying, collating materials; updating bulletin boards; and other out-of-class tasks deemed necessary.

Faculty Assistants may not tutor or perform any functions of the instructor of record, e.g., they are not to grade any course assignments.

Faculty Assistants are hired by the professor or department. Academic Success reimburses the department for the funds at the conclusion of each semester.

Refer your students for tutoring through WarriorFish

When you refer your student through WarriorFish, we will ensure that the student you’ve referred is aware of when and where walk-in tutoring is available. Further assistance can be requested by the student if they find that the walk-in sessions are not sufficient for their needs by using the Tutor Request Form to request further assistance.

It is important to remember that the tutoring services available through the UWTP are, primarily, for 100-200 level general education courses and a small selection of 300-400 level courses. If your course is a 300-400 level course and you believe that your course is one in which we should offer tutoring, please contact us.

If no tutor is available for your 100-200 level general education course, we will work with tutors currently on staff to find someone confident in the course materials to tutor the student. However, it is not always possible to provide tutoring for courses that do not typically have an assigned tutor.

If your student is in need of tutoring for English courses or for writing, please contact the Writing Studio.
