A Basic Mathematical Skills Competency is one of the requirements for an undergraduate degree from East Stroudsburg University.
Satisfying this requirement depends on the type of student:
- New First-Year and Transfer Students for Fall 2024 should complete the ALEKS Placement test.
- Students who Started at ESU Prior to Fall 2024:
- If you have a Math SAT score of 500 or higher, please provide that information to the university or Mathematics Department.
- If you transfer a math course to ESU with a grade of C or higher, you will have satisfied the ESU Basic Mathematical Skills Competency requirement.
- If you need to take a math course for your program or you want to take a math course for other reasons, please complete the ALEKS Placement test.
- For all other students, the University is in the process of creating a procedure for returning students to satisfy the ESU Basic Mathematical Skills Competency requirement. These details will be posted on this site as soon as they become available.
Competency Requirements
All ESU students are required to complete the Basic Mathematical Skills Competency requirement. The ALEKS PPL assessment is an advising system for placement into a mathematics class.
Once you are placed into a mathematics course, you must pass this course in order to complete the Basic Mathematical Skills Competency requirement.
