Friends of Kemp Library
Friends of Kemp Library include Alumni, Community Users, Visiting Scholars or any other individual who is not part of the ESU Community (Student, Staff, Faculty) who wants to borrow or use the resources at the library.
Patrons age 18 and older may check out up to 10 items from select collections: Main Circulating Collection, Government Documents, and Children’s Collection.

Library Privileges
- Check out up to 10 items from these collections: Main Circulating Collection, Government Documents, and Children’s/YA Collection
- Circulation Time Period - 4 weeks (28 days) with one renewal, unless there is a hold on the item(s)
- Research Assistance from a librarian – walk in or call in
- Building access from opening to 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., Friends are welcome to stay if they are already in the building. Re-entry not allowed if Friend leaves building after 6 p.m.
- Top floor (Second Floor) is the Quiet Floor and should be used for individual study or silent reading only. Main and Ground Floors are collaborative areas and talking is permitted here. Be mindful of students who are studying on all floors.
- Guest WiFi Available - The wireless guest network "ESU Guest" does not require a password for login. The "ESU Guest" network will automatically forget your device every eight hours as a security measure.
- Food and drink are permitted on all floors.
- Smoking and vaping are not permitted in the building.
- Bathrooms are located on each floor, next to the elevators.
- Any Friend who disrupts normal library operations will result in their removal from the building by Campus Police. Privileges may be revoked at Kemp Library's discretion.
Fines and Fees
Same as ESU Students, faculty and staff. No fines for university owned library materials unless items are missing or damaged.
Services Not Available
Public phone, fax machine, study rooms, photocopier, printing, laptop loans, interlibrary loan, off campus database access, no change for parking meters.
Become a Friend of Kemp Library
A Friend of Kemp Library may check out items from our collections: Main Circulating Collection, Government Documents, and Children’s Collection. Alumni, Community Users, Visiting Scholars or any other individual who is not part of the ESU Community (Student, Staff, Faculty) can become a Friend of Kemp Library.
Registration Procedure
- Information Required: Email address, Phone Number, valid (not expired) Government issued ID with a mailing address
- Max # of items to check out: 10
- Renewal: Four weeks, 28 days
- Ok to Circulate: Main Circulating, Government Documents, Children's Books
- Age: 18 and up
- Lost or Damaged Items: Lost or damaged items must be replaced by the patron.
