About the Archives

The East Stroudsburg University Archives and Special Collections contain records related to the history of ESU since its inception in 1893. The University Archives and Special Collections hold office records, publications, photographs, manuscripts, scrapbooks, rare books and artifacts as they relate to ESU and related subjects.

Explore the Archives and Special Collections

Located on the ground floor of the Kemp Library, most of the Archives’ collections are open for research to the ESU community and the public. We are available to answer general or specialized research questions and can also assist you during your research visit. Appointments are preferred so that materials can be pulled in advance. If you would like to use any materials from the Archives and Special Collections, please make an appointment with Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Elizabeth Scott.

We are happy to accept donations of materials which relate to ESU history or our other collections.

We are however, unable to accept all donations because of space issues or if they do not fit with our collection. We are happy to work with you to find an appropriate home for your materials.

The Collection

Much of the collection is housed in various locations around campus.  Advanced notice is appreciated before visiting in order to ensure the collections you want are available.

Artwork

In addition to University records, the University holds a collection containing artworks of regional artists such as Cullen Yates, John Havard MacPherson, and Joanne Isaac. Campus offices may request artwork to be hung in their offices by contacting the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Elizabeth Scott.

Special Collections

There are many special collections at ESU including the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection, the Pocono Jazz Heritage Collection, the Eddie Safranski Collection, and the Coover Gazdar Collection.
