The Environmental Science (B.S.) program at East Stroudsburg University provides students with hands-on, personalized instruction in environmental science and prepares them for a wide range of careers in environmental science and conservation.
ESU offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Environmental Science with two concentrations, Environmental Biology for students who choose to focus on science and Environmental Applications for students whose interests and career goals are related to environmental policy and law.
Our students are taught by full-time faculty members with doctoral degrees in Biology, and we offer a broad range of courses related to environmental science.
Why ESU?
- ESU Biology courses are taught by faculty members who all have terminal (Ph.D. or Sc.D.) degrees in biology and who provide personal attention to our students.
- We offer two different concentrations in Environmental Science: Environmental Biology and Environmental Applications.
- We offer many courses in ecology and organismal biology so students get a solid foundation but can also pursue their own areas of interest.
- ESU’s Geography Department offers advanced training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a critical tool for many jobs in environmental science.
- ESU students have many options for internships with government agencies and conservation organizations to obtain hands-on experience in environmental science – and make connections for future jobs.
- We also offer opportunities for undergraduate research in ecology and conservation.
What You'll Learn
Students in the Environmental Science program will learn how to identify local plants and animals, survey streams for fishes and aquatic invertebrates, use lab equipment to assess water quality and test for pollution.
Students will also learn how to carry out experiments and analyze data, and give presentations on environmental science to both scientific and general audiences.
Career Opportunities
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Environmental Science is a good choice for those who plan to work as environmental consultants, in conservation districts, state and federal environmental agencies, non-governmental organizations or plan on attending graduate school.

Emily has been working as a Biological Science Technician with the USDA’s Forest Pest Methods Laboratory for over three years conducting research on the invasive spotted lanternfly insect.
