The purpose of East Stroudsburg University’s Presidential Commission on Community and Belonging is to champion initiatives that support, guide, and advance the university's mission and vision of an inclusive and engaged campus community.
ESU's Strategic Plan, ESU: Creating Opportunities Through Community, Engagement, and Belonging, identifies four areas of focus, which include:
- Area of Focus 1: Develop a Culture of Student Success
- Area of Focus 2: Foster a Community of Belonging
- Area of Focus 3: Optimize Information Technology
- Area of Focus 4: Create an Engaged and Motivated Workforce
Specifically, under Area of Focus 2: Foster a Community of Belonging, the Presidential Commission on Community and Belonging is committed to supporting the university in achieving three key goals: (1) creating an accessible and equitable environment that fosters success and nurtures a sense of belonging; (2) supporting recruitment, retention, progression, and completion efforts; and (3) preparing the institution to meet the needs and expectations of an increasingly inclusive student body.
In addition, the Commission seeks to advance the efforts of the Administration by providing informed recommendations on university procedures and policies, reviewing data that directly impacts the campus community experience, such as climate surveys, and continuously advocating for equitable and inclusive university practices.
