ESU's Policy Approval Process
Stakeholders: Board of Governors, State System Legal, Council of Trustees, University Community and General Public
Step 1 - Policy Identification
Responsible Author identifies policy, engages, stakeholders, and receives approval from supervisor and divisional Vice President.
Step 2 - Policy Vetting/Review
Policy Advisory Committee, Governance Groups/Enforcement Bodies, State System Legal Counsel and President's Cabinet Review and Vet Policies and Procedures
Step 3 - Policy Posting
Policies are posted for public review and comment on the University Policy website for 10 business days.
Step 4 - Policy Adoption
Policy is submitted to the Council of Trustees for informational purposes based on the President's recommendation. Adopted Policies are reviewed every 5 years, or on an as needed basis.

Note: State System Board of Governors Policies Supersede University Policies. When necessary, the purpose of having separate University Policies is to not only complement State System BOG Policies but also clarify what or who has authority at the University.

Policy Numbering Convention
Every policy is assigned a number that begins with the year the policy is approved, then assigned the number in order of approval for that year, i.e. 2019-01, 2019-02, etc.
In addition:
- Policies that are Repealed will end in an “R”, i.e. 2019-02R
- Policies that have been Amended will end in an “A”, i.e. 2019-03A
- Policies that have been through the final approval process will begin with “ESU”, i.e. ESU-2019-02
